The directors and management have a proven track record of over 30 years providing flat to pitch roof solutions, building an enviable reputation within the industry. William Cooper LTD work closely and in conjunction with Ward Building Components in developing engineered construction systems and undertakes the full roofing package from initial survey, design options, cad drawings, building control and planning approval through to full site management and installation. William Cooper LTD are Ward Building Component approved installers, and are accredited by the following bodies ; ISO9002, NFRC, Construction Line, CPD Certification Service The task facing the design team was to transform the institutional image of the entire site into a more domestic aesthetic, whilst also addressing the on going flat roof problems.
With the client specifying a tight contract programme for the whole flat to pitch roof conversion works to be completed, the Capella clear span system's speed of erection became an additional factor in the design teams selection approach.
By spanning wall to wall, the Capella System avoided the need to further load the existing flat felt roof. The dramatic conversion was completed by the use of a lightweight granular tile effect sheet system in a bold red colour.
"The Capella system used was light and flexible enough to accommodate the varying plan shapes. Capella proved better than many of the 'prop' built alternatives due to the need for large spaces for service runs and maintenance, speed of erection, durability and limited degree of construction noise which was of particular importance at the site".
The Capella flat to pitch roof conversion system clear span truss is a tried, tested and proven solution to achieving clear span options up to 30 metres, where no direct loading is acceptable on the existing flat roof. The system utilises the Ward multibeam purlin and channel sections, which are factory precision punched and bolted on site for a quick and simple assembly.
The Capella fully supported truss can offer savings over the clear span truss system, when there is no need to avoid load onto the existing flat roof. The lightweight components can be roof or ground assembled and is easily manually lifted into position without disruption to building or occupants.

After successfully alleviating similar problems on other school complexes, the local education authority maintenance section again chose a self supporting conversion system, which transmitted the new loads to the existing main structural frame and allowing the School to function normally.
The layout of the school with a raised central hall area, dictated that a multi slope roof conversion was required, which was aesthetically acceptable and allowed the area adjacent to the central hall to be raised to accommodate future hall extension and also taking into account the proposed future school extension scheme.
The self supporting conversion system chosen, imposed no load on the existing flat roof, enclosing the existing multi-level roofs and the aesthetic appearance satisfied the planning officers criteria and in addition the overhanging eaves and verge, reduced the easy access.
