The school was situated in close proximity to a residential area, with this in mind the Local Authority wanted to create a functional solution to the problem of water ingress, that would also be aesthetically pleasing to local residents.
The Local Authority chose the ‘Capella’ flat to pitched roofing system.

The existing roof was constructed of asphalt over an asbestos cement deck, therefore a system had to be devised using the external walls as the only means of support, thus preventing the risk of disturbance to the existing asbestos cement deck. As the Capella Vierendeel truss system is capable of spanning up to 30m unsupported, this was the solution the Local Authority required.

The completed structure was clad in Terracotta coloured granule finished tile effect roofing sheets which blended in with the surrounding residential area.
